Megan Stout is a new freelance artist in the St Louis area. She is a highly experienced orchestral and chamber musician and has performed for numerous weddings and special events.

Megan began her studies at the age of nine in Philadelphia, where she studied with the principal harpist of the Philadelphia Orchestra, Elizabeth Hainen. She continued her musical education and graduated from the famous harp department at Indiana University, under the tutelage of Professor Susann McDonald, with both a Bachelor of Music and Master of Music in Harp Performance. This department draws many talented harpists and has the distinction of being the largest harp studio in the world. While she was at Indiana University she won several competitions such as the American String Teacher’s Association’s National Competition (Harp), and was a prizewinner twice in the National Society of Arts and Letters.

Megan has played regularly with such renowned symphonies as the Saint Louis Symphony, Indianapolis Symphony, and the Philadelphia Orchestra. Her summers are spent in beautiful Breckenridge, CO playing with The Breckenridge Music Festival, where she has been regularly featured as a soloist.

Megan is a resident of Saint Louis, MO.

I've lived in St. Louis for a number of years, and I'm familiar with most of the local wedding locations. I am degreed specifically in Harp Performance, and I have other more advanced degrees as well, including Music Education, specifically Strings Education. I have been a school Orchestra Director and Harp Ensemble Director. Since my childhood, I have always studied under University harp professors, and I continue to take masterclasses under the top harpists in the world, some being specialists in classical harp, as well as studying privately under Deborah Henson-Conant, the top jazz harpist in the world. In recent years, I won the audition for the position of Symphony Principal Harpist, a position I held for an extended period of time in a city of over 700,000 people. Playing wedding harp music professionally has been my specialty for 35 years. For the year 2011, I am the most frequently-booked harpist in any city in the U.S., on the top website in the world for booking live musicians. I take pride in doing whatever it takes to make the bride, her family and her guests happy with their wedding harp music.
